Access

A. From KIX (Kansai International Airport) to JR Kyoto station (Kyoto railway station)

(A-1) We think that it is most convenient to take a limousine (Kansai Airport Limousine) from KIX to JR Kyoto Station. The fare for a one-way ticket (resp. a round trip ticket) is 2500 yen (resp. 4000yen). The timetable is here. (A-2) It is also convenient to take a Haruka limited express from KIX bound for JR Kyoto station. The fare for a one-way ticket is 3280 yen, including a seat reservation. The timetable is here.

B. From NRT (Tokyo--Narita International Airport) to JR Kyoto station (Kyoto railway station) by trains

Take a Narita Express bound for JR Tokyo station and transfer to the Tokaido Shinkansen to JR Kyoto Station. Total travel time is about 4 hours and the total fare for a one-way ticket will be 15930 -- 16900 yen (subject to change), including seat reservation. We recommend you to buy all the train tickets at Narita airport station in advance. The time table of Narita Express is here. The distance between NRT and JR Tokyo station is more than 70 kilometers. Taxi fare from Narita to the center of Tokyo is very expensive and occasional traffic jams make it difficult to reach the center of Tokyo within the estimated time.

C. From HND (Tokyo--Haneda International Airport) to JR Kyoto station (Kyoto railway station) by trains

(C-1) Take the Keikyu line to Keikyu Shinagawa station. Then go to JR Shinagawa Station, which is very close to Keikyu Shinagawa station. From JR Shinagawa Station, take the Tokaido Shinkansen to JR Kyoto Station. Total travel time is about 3 hours and the total fare for a one-way ticket will be 13720 yen (subject to change), including seat reservation. (C-2) Take the Tokyo Monorail to JR Hamamatsucho station and transfer to JR line (Yamanote line or Keihintohoku line) to JR Tokyo Station or JR Shinagawa Station. Then take the Tokaido Shinkansen at JR Tokyo station/JR Shinagawa station. We note that both JR Tokyo station and JR Shinagawa station are close to JR Hamamatsucho station.

D. From JR Kyoto station to RIMS (the venue of the workshop)

(By bus) There is a bus terminal in front of Karasuma central exit. Take city bus No. 17 at bus stop A2, then get off at Kitashirakawa. The fare is 220 yen, and the average journey time is around 30 min. For the bus stops of JR Kyoto station, please visit the web site: Kyoto Station Map in English. The bus terminal is located at the north side of JR Kyoto station. (By taxi) There is a taxi stand on the right hand side of Karasuma central exit. No tip is necessary. It costs 2200--2500 yen.
